Website redesign checklist: 15 points before you rebuild

A practical list before you change the design: SEO, URLs, content, mobile, tracking, and calls to action — so you do not lose existing traffic.

A checklist for a website refresh and redesign

Before you change anything

Export the URLs that rank (Search Console), keep a backup, and note the pages that bring leads. A redesign without an inventory is the number-one risk for losing traffic.

A 15-point checklist

Go through this before and during the redesign:

  • URL inventory plus top pages from Search Console
  • A 301 redirect plan
  • New titles and meta descriptions (not a blind copy-paste)
  • A clear H1–H2 structure
  • Mobile-first: buttons, forms, speed
  • Visible calls to action (phone / WhatsApp / form)
  • Analytics and Search Console connected
  • The form tested on a phone
  • Alt text for images
  • An updated sitemap
  • Google Business matched to the NAP details
  • Weak old content rewritten
  • A custom 404 page
  • A basic cross-browser test
  • A communication plan (clients know about the new site)
